Message from the Head

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Central Department of Physics (CDP), Tribhuvan University. The Department was founded in 1965. Over the years, around 3,500 students have earned their M.Sc. degrees from CDP, with the current annual enrollment standing at 120 students. As of the end of 2024, 54 PhD students have successfully graduated from CDP, and there are currently 72 PhD candidates pursuing their studies. As the Head of the Department, I am honored to lead a team of dedicated faculty, enthusiastic students, and supportive staff who together have a strong commitment for advancing knowledge in the field of physics. Our faculty members are actively engaged in cutting-edge research in various areas of physical sciences. At this juncture, I would like to welcome young graduates. Your curiosity, dedication, and passion are the driving force behind our collective progress. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing you with rigorous academic training, state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities to engage in innovative research.

Physics, as a fundamental science, offers a deep understanding of the natural world and lays the foundation for technological advancements. Our mission remains rooted in providing world-class education, promoting cutting-edge research, and nurturing the next generation of physicists, educators, and innovators. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of modern science, we strive to uphold the legacy of this institution.  We also embrace interdisciplinary research & collaboration, technological advancements, and global scientific dialogue. The Central Department of Physics takes pride in its contributions to both fundamental and applied research, addressing national and global scientific challenges.  Our faculty and students continue to push boundaries, publish impactful work, and represent Nepal on international platforms.  We have established partnerships with national and international institutions, providing our students and researchers with opportunities to participate in joint projects, exchange programs, and conferences. I extend my gratitude to our faculty and staff for their tireless efforts in maintaining academic excellence and fostering an environment of intellectual growth. We are proud to note the achievements of our Alumni and look forward to collaborate for strengthening academic endeavor. As we move forward, we aim to strengthen industry-academia partnerships, expand research infrastructure, and integrate emerging fields of physics into our curriculum. Together, we will continue to empower Nepal’s scientific community enabling them to contribute sustainable development of the society.
